In 2016, BCM GRC supplied the Victoria Gate Shopping Centre in Leeds, a project designed to resemble a modern Victorian arcade.

The specific design of the project posed many challenges, including intricate, triangular-profiled GRC surrounding the main entrance, which was required to interface with a primary steel structure that had large tolerances. BCM came up with the solution of a preformed mitred junction, specifically designed to aid installation, while maintaining the design intent. Other challenges faced included coordinating the GRC to accommodate the building’s automatic sliding doors, and the GRC needing to house the shopping centre’s internal communication system.

Thanks to BCM’s attention to detail, however, and our team of the most experienced GRC operatives in the country, we were able to overcome all challenges and surpass expectations, delivering a façade that remains one of the finest examples of GRC in use.
Shortly after its doors opened, Victoria Gate earned international recognition – it was crowned the BEST shopping centre in the world at the MIPIM Awards in Cannes in March 2017!

And the building looks just as spectacular today.
