With a team of over 45 specialists dedicated to GRC production, BCM GRC is fully equipped to deliver even the most complex and large-scale projects from our purpose-built facility in Whitchurch, Shropshire. Our site features a large, dedicated mould shop, two separate production areas, and ample space for finishing and loading. This infrastructure allows us to manage multiple projects or product lines simultaneously—with efficiency, precision, and flexibility.
We maintain long-standing relationships with our suppliers—almost all UK-based—enabling us to draw on their expertise and resources to ensure every project is delivered on time. BCM GRC Ltd was founded by John Butler, Simon Carden, and Roger Mason, who began manufacturing Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete (GRC) products on John Butler’s farm. Despite being a relatively new material, GRC quickly gained recognition for its quality, lightweight properties, and durability—particularly in the agricultural sector.
Throughout the 1980s and into the new millennium, BCM GRC experienced steady growth. Initially focused on agricultural and drainage products, the company expanded operations to a central Whitchurch factory and later to a purpose-built facility on a 4.5-acre site. During this period, GRC began to be used in architectural applications, and BCM led the way by introducing stone-faced finishes, colour options, and quality systems that influenced industry standards. GRC’s non-combustible nature made it ideal for infrastructure projects, including the UK rail network, water industry, and road networks.
In 2001, the founding partners passed the torch to new owners Mal, Nick, and Tom—experts from the concrete industry. Under their leadership, BCM expanded into further drainage and housing markets while continuing to deliver exceptional architectural solutions. BCM earned a reputation for producing the highest quality GRC in the UK and remains the only company offering a comprehensive range of GRC products for utility sectors.
By the mid-2000s, GRC was still considered niche, but its popularity surged ahead of the 2012 Olympics. Architects began embracing GRC for larger-scale projects, and BCM rose to the challenge. Our portfolio includes landmark developments such as the Olympic Athletes Village, Crossrail, and numerous regeneration initiatives across London.
